Check a local ZIP containing Instagram post metadata, or choose one JSON file for a partial check. This is a readiness checker, not an importer. Files stay in this browser; no login or upload is involved. Follow the import walkthrough for requesting JSON and using your server’s actual importer.
Local processing requires JavaScript. If it is disabled, use the official server instructions below; no upload fallback is offered.
Choose a file and start a local check. File names and captions will not be displayed or included in the summary.
Supported structures and limits
Adapter instagram-posts-v1 recognises arrays of post objects, or a matching single post, with media URI and numeric creation_timestamp fields. It reads numbered posts_N.json files under content, your_instagram_activity/content or your_instagram_activity/media. Unknown wrappers are not silently accepted. It ignores messages, contacts and unrelated JSON. Referenced media is matched by exact normalised path; photos and videos are not inflated or previewed.
Fediview's browser limits: 256 MiB compressed ZIP, 20,000 entries, 8 MiB actual decompressed JSON per file, 32 MiB total metadata, 20,000 recognised posts and a 30-second processing deadline. Cancel terminates the worker. These are browser limits, separate from the server requirements.
Encrypted, multipart, unsafe-path, duplicate-path and unsupported archives stop with an error. ZIP entry sizes are header estimates; media integrity is not checked. JSON alone cannot check media presence. Absent media may be in a different split-export part. Reading multiple metadata files does not prove the server imports them all: the Pixelfed source checked on 1 November 2026 selects posts_1.json.
Server requirements and result meaning
-
pixelfed.social requirements: 5000 posts; minimum age 0 days; videos yes. Checked 2026-11-01. Permissions for your account are not verified.
-
pixelfed.com requirements: 10000 posts; minimum age 1 days; videos yes. Checked 2026-11-01. Permissions for your account are not verified.
Other servers remain unknown. A Checks completed result means the selected local checks ran, not that an import will succeed. Action needed reports preparation issues. Partial check means media or server information is incomplete, or multiple metadata files need server-specific review. Account eligibility and the actual import outcome are always unverified.

This route loads no analytics, replay or newsletter observers. File contents, names, captions and paths are not sent to a server, persisted in browser storage or placed in URLs. Summary downloads contain only outcomes and counts. Reset, cancel and navigation terminate the worker and release references. Privacy details.
